HC Deb 22 November 1976 vol 919 c876W
Mr. Spearing

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will set out in the Official Report wholesale food prices of major food items inside and outside the EEC together with the approximate quantities of each category of food imported from the EEC.

Mr. Bishop

A selection of the sterling equivalent wholesale or "nearest first hand" prices quoted in recent months for a number of major food items is given below. Some of the variation in prices between countries is attributed to differences in marketing customs, stages in marketing at which the prices are measured, quality, grade and presentation of products.

I assume that the information requested about quantities imported from the EEC relates to imports by the United Kingdom. Information on such imports is published in Overseas Trade Statistics of the United Kingdom—Table III, Section 0—available in the Library of the House.
