HC Deb 22 November 1976 vol 919 cc941-2W
Mr. Bradford

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) if comparisons are made between competitive quotations and the cost of using direct labour in the cases of Government Departments, of local authorities and of statutory bodies responsible to him;

(2) if he will give the number of administrative workers in each case where direct labour squads are employed and the cost attributable to this serving of the construction workers, in respect of work undertaken for Government Departments, local authorities and statutory bodies responsible to him;

(3) if the various Government Departments and statutory bodies responsible to him which use direct labour for construction obtain comparative quotations from contractors before deciding that direct labour squads should carry out work; and if full allowance is made for the added overheads involved in departmental administration when comparisons of estimates are made.

Mr. Carter

I will write to the hon. Member.
