Mr. Moonman

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a Statement on the use to which NHS computer information relating to the contraceptive pill, and the names of the users, is put.

Mr. Moyle

Identifiable information held on computer records which relates to NHS patients taking oral contraceptives is used in the course of normal patient care.

Access to the information, or any part of it, is restricted to certain computer and research staff and to those authorised in the clinical field who need it in the performance of their duties.

If my hon. Friend is concerned about a particular case, I shall be pleased to look into it.
