HC Deb 22 November 1976 vol 919 cc924-5W
Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is satisfied with the effectiveness of the law relating to the protection of birds and animals from being shot as an entertainment before an audience paying money to witness the spectacle.

Dr. Summerskill

The Protection of Animals Act 1911 makes it an offence to cause unnecessary suffering to any animal in the circumstances described. A number of other statutes regulate or prohibit entirely, the killing or taking of particular species on conservation grounds. I am not aware of any inadequacy of the law.
