§ Mr. Merlyn ReesThe Chief Constable of Bedfordshire wrote to my predecessor about this case, and has received a full reply. It would not be appropriate to go into details of the correspondence, but the reply once again expressed regret for the delay in reaching a decision on Mr. Betteridge's appeal, and referred to the consideration which, as my predecessor informed the House on 7th June, formed the basis of his decision on the appeal.—[Vol. 912, c. 979–82].
