Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will list the sums paid in travelling allowance, subsistence allowance and attendance allowance respectively, to councillors in each council in Northern Ireland for each financial year since the reorganisation of local government to the latest available date, giving in each case the average, the higher, and the lowest amounts for councillors in each council and the total sum per council.

Information in the precise form requested could not be obtained without a disproportionate use of resources. However, the information in respect of those registered for work during the week ended 22nd October 1976 is as follows:

the amounts granted to mayors, council chairmen and their deputies for hospitality and entertainment of their guests and the amounts actually expended in each financial year since the present councils were elected up to the latest available date; and if he will express these sums to the nearest fraction of a penny on the local rate in each case.
