HC Deb 16 November 1976 vol 919 cc510-1W
Mr. Kinnock

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the per capita contribution of taxation in each of the years 1973–74, 1974–75 and 1975–76 in Wales, Scotland and England, respectively.

Mr. Robert Sheldon,

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 12th November 1976, Vol. 919, c. 285], gave the following information:

Excluding revenue from local authority rates and national insurance contributions, the best available estimates are as follows:

Wales Scotland England
1973–74 261 281 320
1974–75 334 364 407
1975–76 390 467 516
in £ per capita per year.

These estimates attribute taxes according to the areas where the tax burden is borne, not the point of collection, which is often a central point or head office. Among the sources used are the Annual Survey of Personal Incomes and the Family Expenditure Survey.
