§ Mr. Carter-Jonesasked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will have consultations with the Civil Aviation Authority to ensure that airworthiness certificates on aircraft such as the DC10 are issued only after careful investigation; if in view of the fact that faults in communication seem to have prevented adequate response to a design fault in the DC10, he will encourage world-wide co-operation to prevent a recurrence of this type of incident; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Clinton DavisMatters concerning the safety, including the airworthiness, of United Kingdom-registered civil aircraft, are the responsibility of the Civil Aviation Authority, whose Chairman has confirmed that, prior to the issue of a United Kingdom certificate of airworthiness to an aircraft such as the DC 10, a critical safety analysis is conducted by a team of the Authority's airworthiness experts. He has also assured the Government that the Authority is taking all possible action to encourage worldwide co-operation in the exchange of airworthiness information necessary for the prevention of accidents.
