HC Deb 09 November 1976 vol 919 cc159-60W
Mr. Gwynfor Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he accepts the recommendation of the Welsh Hospital Board Working Party on the use of the Welsh language in the hospital service that signs and notices in hospitals should be bilingual; and what steps have been taken to encourage the use of the Welsh language on public signs and notice boards in Welsh hospitals.

Mr. Barry Jones

Current guidance, which superseded the recommendation in 1972 from the working party, is given in a Welsh Office circular issued to area health authorities in March 1975. This requests them to make every effort to encourage the use of Welsh by exhibiting reception area signs and notices and all main external and main internal signs in both English and Welsh.
