§ Mr. George Cunninghamasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how much of the savings of £21 million referred to in the Chancellor's speech of 22nd July, Official Report, column 2016, as deriving from proposals on unemployment benefit and invalidity benefit for housewives, is attributable to the suggested restriction on entitlement to unemployment benefit; and what conditions for the restriction are assumed in calculating the figures.
§ Mr. OrmeThe assumed saving in 1977–78 from the proposed restriction of unemployment benefit for occupational pensioners is nearly £10 million. This is based on the proposals coming into effect in the summer of 1977 and on their applying, on a sliding-scale basis, to all persons aged 60 or over with occupational pensions exceeding £25 a week.
