HC Deb 09 November 1976 vol 919 c114W
Mr. Stephen Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he will see that adequate funds are provided to highway authorities to ensure that existing lorry bypass routes, which are not fully utilised due to poor signposting, are quickly brought up to the required standards so that heavy traffic is guided on to the major road network.

Mr. Horam

Financial assistance to local transport expenditure, including the signing of local roads, is given principally through the transport supplementary grant. It is for each highway authority to decide, having regard to the funds available, the standard to which the roads in its area should be signed.
