HC Deb 09 November 1976 vol 919 c107W
Mr. Hawkins

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many veterinary surgeons on his Department's staff were testing Gumboro poultry vaccine and over what period; what was their recommendation; and when this was made to his Department.

Mr. Strang

Work on testing Gumboro disease vaccines began at the Ministry's Central Veterinary Laboratory in 1972 and since then four veterinary surgeons have worked part of their time on this problem. In September 1974 recommendations were made to the Veterinary Products Committee as to the standards relating to safety, quality and efficacy that should be applied to these vaccines. On the advice of the committee animal test certificates were granted for two vaccines in November 1974. One of these was given a product licence in August 1975.
