§ Mr. Canavanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his estimate of the annual number of young people under the age of 21 years who leave Scotland.
§ Mr. Harry EwingI regret that the information is not available in the form requested. It is estimated, however, that, in the year 1975, 7,500 persons under 21 years of age emigrated from Scotland to countries outwith the United Kingdom and Eire and that in the year before the 1971 Census 23,900 persons aged over 1 and under 21 emigrated to England and Wales. The corresponding numbers of immigrants to Scotland are estimated at 3,900 and 16,200 respectively.
