HC Deb 04 November 1976 vol 918 cc687-8W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why, although Members' spouses receive no general reimbursement of expenses, they are taxed on a travel warrant when they have to attend events connected with their spouses' parliamentary duties.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

Travel warrants used by Members' spouses are subject to the same tax rules as those used by Members. Where, therefore, they are used for travel between home and London, and the home is not in the

same information as a percentage of GNP over the same years.

Mr. Joel Barnett

For each of the years ended 31st March 1970 to 1976 the interest on the National Debt per head of population amounted to approximately 0.00000006 per cent. of the gross national product at factor cost. For the current year ending 31st March 1977 it estimated that it will amount to a little below 0.00000008 per cent.
