HC Deb 04 November 1976 vol 918 c662W
Mr. Robin F. Cook

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list those housing authorities which have fulfilled the SDD target of 25 sheltered housing units per 1,000 elderly residents.

Mr. Hugh D. Brown

I am not aware that any local authority has met that target, which was set for the end of 1974. It has since been superseded by proposals that my right hon. Friend put to local authorities last year, that they should make comprehensive assessments of housing needs, including those of the elderly, in their areas and should develop their future housing strategies accordingly. Under the system of local "housing plans" for each authority district which my right hon. Friend hopes to introduce next year, authorities will be expected to show that they plan for adequate progress to be made in their areas towards meeting the various housing needs which have been determined.
