§ Mr. Maddenasked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will impose provisional charges to anti-dumping duty whilst an anti-dumping investigation into the importing of Eastern European suits is proceeding; when the result of the complaint made by the Clothing Manufacturers Association will be announced; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Clinton DavisNot at this stage. The case is very complex, and many facts have still to be verified. A provisional charge to anti-dumping duty has to be based on likely margins of dumping as well as on the extent of injury to the United Kingdom industry. We must be sure of the facts and able to assess wth some accuracy these margins. We are aware of the importance which the Clothing Manufacturers Federation attaches to this case, and our inquiries are proceeding as a matter of urgency. The result will be announced as soon as possible.
