HC Deb 28 May 1976 vol 912 c464W
Mr. Ronald Atkins

asked the Secretary of State for Industry whether there has been an increase in the amount of waste paper recycled by the United Kingdom paper and board industry in recent years.

Mr. Alan Williams

Consumption of waste paper by the United Kingdom paper and board industry rose steadily from 1.8 million tonnes in 1971 to 2.1 million tonnes in 1974. In 1975 it fell to 1.7 million tonnes as a result of the economic recession. The forecast is, however, that this figure will rise to 3.2 million tonnes by 1981.
