HC Deb 28 May 1976 vol 912 c467W
Mr. Stott

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will give a firm estimate of the date on which Her Majesty's Government will ratify the international Convention of Safety of Life at Sea, 1974; and whether an initiative is being taken to persuade other governments to ratify this convention as soon as possible.

Mr. Clinton Davis

The Government will ratify the International Convention on the Safety of Life at Sea 1974, as soon as the powers to implement it are available. Appropriate legislation will be introduced when the parliamentary timetable allows. The Government continue to stress within IMCO the importance of early entry into force of the Convention.
