Mr. Hooley

asked the Minister for Overseas Development what would be the cost to the United Kingdom of a debt moratorium for the benefit of: (a) least developed countries and (b) the most seriously affected countries, as defined by the United Nations.

Mr. Prentice

The cost to the United Kingdom of forgoing payments of interest and repayments of capital due in 1976, in respect of past aid loans, would be £4.683 million for the least developed countries, and £48.645 million in the case of the most seriously affected countries.
