HC Deb 28 May 1976 vol 912 cc432-3W
Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether the Government intend to introduce a Bill to make it possible for a new trial to be ordered in Scotland, where fresh evidence is discovered which has a bearing on a previous conviction.

Mr. Harry Ewing

Consultations on the second report of the Thomson Committee on Criminal Procedure are still in progress. The question of legislation to provide for a retrial in fresh evidence cases will be examined in the context of the consideration of the Committee's recommendations as a whole.
