HC Deb 28 May 1976 vol 912 cc460-1W
Mr. George

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give a general direction to British Rail to amend the categories of livestock which it is prepared to carry by rail.

Dr. Gilbert

Decisions on what unaccompanied livestock should be accepted for carriage by rail are a matter for the British Railways Board. However, I understand that the Central Transport Consultative Committee will consider at its June meeting the carriage of unaccompanied livestock, including pigeons, by rail. Those who wish to make representations should write to their local area transport users consultative committee, the chairmen of which are members of the central committee. The addresses are: The Transport Users Consultative Committee for Wales, St. David's House (East Wing), Wood Street, Cardiff CF1 1ES. The Transport Users Consultative Committee for Scotland, 30 George Square, Glasgow G2 1EG. The Transport Users Consultative Committee for East Anglia, Westlegate House, 14–18 Westlegate, Norwich NR1 3LR. The Transport Users Consultative Committee for the East Midland Area, Room 209, Castlefields, Main Centre, London Road, Derby DE1 2PE. The Transport Users Consultative Committees for London and for the South Eastern Area, 3–4 Great Marlborough Street, London W1V 2EA. The Transport Users Consultative Committee for the North Western Area, Room 308 Royal Exchange, Cross Street, Manchester M2 7BR. The Transport Users Consultative Committee for the South Western Area, The Pithay, Bristol BS1 2NB. The Transport Users Consultative Committee for the West Midland Area, Room 407–8 Windsor House, 3 Temple Row, Birmingham B2 5JX.
