HC Deb 26 May 1976 vol 912 cc246-7W
Mr. Ashley

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the number and value of grants provided under Sections 56 and 65 of the Housing Act 1974 in each month since November 1975; and what proportion of each figure were made to disabled people who would not have been eligible for grants but for their disability.

Mr. Freeson

Figures of house renovation grants paid in England and Wales from November 1975 to March 1976 are as follows:

non-Governmental organisations to arrange public events in the United Kingdom to mark the United Nations Conference on Human Settlement (HABITAT);

(3) if he will list any public events which have been organised by non-Governmental organisations in the United Kingdom to mark the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (HABITAT).

Mr. Guy Barnett

Because of current economic circumstances the United Kingdom contribution to HABITAT will be limited, but effective. The formal contribution consists of: (a) a national report on United Kingdom planning experience; (b) audio-visual contributions and booklets; (c) the designation of 15 Habitat demonstration sites, with an explanatory booklet, which illustrate some successful solutions to human settlement problems in the United Kingdom. My Department made a small contribution to cover net administrative expenses of a two-ray conference entitled "People and their Settlements" organised by the Co-ordinating Committee of the Non-Governmental Organisations—NGOs—held on 10th–11th January.

The audio-visual presentations and the publications were launched publicly on 30th March in London and on 5th April in Manchester. My hon. Friend the Member for Widnes (Mr. Oakes) opened the United Kingdom publicity campaign for HABITAT on 10th February when he delivered the annual "Tallents Lecture" to the Institute of Public Relations with the conference as his theme.

I suggest that the hon. Member asks the NGO's co-ordinating committee for a list of the public events which have been organised.
