Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many young persons sentenced to borstal training were located: (a) at local prisons and (b) at remand centres at the latest available date; what are the institutions; and how many young persons, by sex, were located at each;

(2) how long each of the young persons sentenced to borstal training but held in local prisons or remand centres at the latest available date have been held in these institutions.

On 30th April, 88 sentenced Borstal trainees were held in local prisons and 74 in remand centres. The following table shows the institutions in which they were held:
