asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many public servants are having deductions made from their salaries to pay for arrears of rent and rates.

Pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 17th May 1976; Vol. 911, c. 376], gave the following information:

The information in respect of public servants in general is not available, but of some 33,000 Northern Ireland civil servants 35 are having deductions made from their salaries or wages to pay for arrears of rent and rates.
