asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many people in the United Kingdom, except Northern Ireland, changed their employment in the years 1973 to 1975; and how many were out of work in each year for over six months.

Precise figures on changes of employment are not available. However, information from the General Household Survey indicates that the number of persons changing their employer in Great Britain during 1973 was just over 3 million. Many of these persons change their employer more than once. The numbers unemployed are analysed at quarterly intervals according to the length of their current spell of registration.
