Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Prime Minister whether he will seek an early opportunity to meet the Prime Ministers or Heads of State of the African countries which are, or which are intending, to expel British passport holders, with a view to getting an agreement on the procedures to be followed so as to avoid pain, suffering and hardship to those concerned.
§ The Prime MinisterThe emigration of United Kingdom passport holders from East and Central Africa to the United Kingdom is regulated by the special voucher scheme. This provides for a total of 5,000 heads of household with dependants during the current year. Migration under this scheme is proceeding in an orderly way and there is no present need for discussion with the Heads of State or Prime Ministers of the countries concerned.
