HL Deb 25 May 1976 vol 371 c256WA
Lord AVEBIJRY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What guidance the Health and Safety Executive is giving to local authorities regarding the precautions to be taken on asbestos dumps within their areas to safeguard the health and safety of employees and members of the general public.

Lord JACQUES

I am informed by the Chairman of the Health and Safety Commission that Her Majesty's Inspectors of Factories have been instructed to identify in consultation with local authorities, and subsequently visit, all land-fill sites where asbestos is being deposited, to assess the risk to persons at work and others who may be affected, and to check that the precautions taken to prevent risk to health from asbestos are adequate. Appropriate advice will be given, as necesary, in the light of their findings to local authorities.
