Walker asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many local authority tenants have occupied their houses for the following periods: less than five years, five to nine years, 10 to 14 years, 15 to 19 years, 20 to 24 years, 25 to 29 years and 30 years or more.

The latest available estimates of the proportions of local authority and new town tenants who have been resident at their present address for various periods are as follows:
