HC Deb 21 May 1976 vol 911 c752W
Mr. Luce

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a public reaffirmation of the Government's willingness to resolve the fisheries dispute with Iceland through mediation.

Mr. Hattersley

Yes.

Mr. Luce

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will consider requesting NATO to place observers on board Royal Navy protection vessels operating off Iceland to monitor incidents with the Icelandic coastguard.

Mr. Hattersley

We have already made this suggestion to NATO. As my right hon. Friend the Minister of State for Defence told the House on 9th March, it was, unfortunately, rejected by the Icelandic Government.

Mr. Luce

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will set out the diplomatic efforts made by various Governments during the last month to bring about a resolution of the fisheries dispute with Iceland.

Mr. Hattersley

I have nothing to add to the statement my right hon. Friend made to the House on 19th May in reply to another Question by the hon. Member.
