Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) what percentage of new jobs established in Northern Ireland were of new jobs promoted in each of the last five years;

(2) how many new jobs in manufacturing industry have been created in Northern Ireland during each of the past five years; how many of these result from expansion of existing enterprises; and how many from new investment;

(3) how many jobs have been created in each of the last five years by the Urban and Rural Improvement Campaign, the Local Enterprise Development Unit and Enterprise Ulster, respectively;

(4) how many jobs have been saved by the Northern Ireland Finance Corporation in each year of its operation; how many new jobs created; and what was the total expenditure involved;

(5) how many jobs have been lost in manufacturing industry in Northern Ireland in each of the last five years; how many firms have closed down; and how many have reduced their work force;

(6) how many engineering firms in Northern Ireland have closed down or reduced their work force in each of the last five years;

(7) how many jobs have been lost and how many new jobs promoted in textiles and in engineering, respectively, in each of the last five years in Northern Ireland;

(8) what were the average unemployment figures in Northern Ireland for each of the last 10 years; and how they compare with remote areas in Great Britain;

(9) how many people were employed in agriculture in Northern Ireland in each of the last five years;

(10) how many people were employed in the construction industry in Northern Ireland in each of the last five years.
