Mr. R. C. Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will institute a review of the working of the Children and Young Persons Act 1969 in the light of comments recently made by the Police Federation; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

The working of the Children and Young Persons Act 1969 has been reviewed both by the Social Services and Employment Sub-Committee of the Expenditure Committee, which reported on 25th September 1975, and by the Government. The Committee's report was debated in the House on 13th April. The Government expect to publish their observations on the Expenditure Committee's recommendations in a White Paper very shortly.
