HC Deb 21 May 1976 vol 911 c772W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that citizens are being expelled from Malawi; how many Asian British passport holders are in a situation where expulsion is liable in each of the stated countries of Africa, and what action is being taken to find housing, employment and educational facilities for these people.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

My hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs made it clear on 17th May in answer to a Private Notice Question from the right hon. Member for Chipping Barnet (Mr. Maudling) that although citizens are being expelled from Malawi there is no evidence to suggest that there is about to be a large-scale exodus; special provision is not, therefore, currently called for. The question of other British passport holders liable to expulsion from Africa is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.
