HC Deb 20 May 1976 vol 911 c729W
Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what are the estimated numbers of: (a) British passport holders and (b) their dependants who would be entitled to enter the United Kingdom if deported from Malawi, Kenya, Zambia, Tanzania, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, respectively.

Mr. Luard

Patrial British passport holders and their dependants would, of course, be entitled to enter the United Kingdom. The question as to which non-patrial United Kingdom passport holders and their dependants would be allowed to enter in the circumstances described would be a matter for decision by the Government at the time.

The number of patrial United Kingdom citizens in each country is estimated to be as follows:

Malawi 5,000
Kenya 22,000
Zambia 27,000
Tanzania 1,950
Malaysia 3,631
Singapore 6,900
Sri Lanka 3,631
India 3,369
Pakistan 970
Bangladesh 530
