§ Mr. Ronald Atkinsasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will delay the phasing out of the rail freight subsidy until heavy lorries, especially those over 3.5 tons gross vehicle weight, pay the full costs which they impose on the roads and the environment.
§ Dr. GilbertAs the consultation document says, the Government see no case for general and continuing subsidy to any form of freight transport. The timing of any policy changes, and their inter-relation, will be decided in the light of the consultation process.
