§ Mr. ShoreAt 13th December 1975, the latest date for which information is available, the number employed by local authorities and police authorities in England and Wales, excluding police cadets, civilians and traffic wardens and agency, magistrates' courts and probation staff, was 2,575,000. Between June 1973 and June 1975, the latest date for which annual figures are available, the estimated net increase in local authority staff was 118,000. In June 1975 about 11 per cent. of the working population was employed by local government.
