§ Dr. OwenMany services provided by National Health Service hospitals have important preventive as well as therapeutic aspects, including, for example, facilities for early detection of disease and appropriate treatment to return the individual to health, and for minimising disability arising out of existing disease or injury. Primary prevention of illness is largely the concern of the general practitioner and other services provided outside hospital.
