§ Mr. McCrindleasked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection (1) if she will request the Office of Fair Trading to exclude tour operators from the requirement to end resale price maintenance;
(2) if she will consult consumer interests on the desirability of retaining resale price maintenance in regard to package holidays.
§ Mr. John FraserI take it that the hon. Member is referring to the practice whereby travel agents do not sell package holidays below the tour operator's brochure price. If this practice stems from an agreement which is covered by the Restrictive Trade Practices (Services) Order 1976 particulars have to be furnished to the Director General of Fair Trading by 21st June 1976. In evaluating such an agreement the Director General would consult all interests likely to be affected, including consumer interests.
