§ Mr. Sillarsasked the Secretary of State for Scotland which regulations govern the 191W netting of salmon at Ayrshire river estuaries; and which estuaries are subject to netting during the current year.
§ Mr. Hugh D. BrownThe netting of salmon in Ayreshire river estuaries is regulated by the provisions of the Salmon Fisheries (Scotland) Acts 1862 and 1868, and the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries (Protection) (Scotland) Act 1951, the Salmon and Migratory Trout (Prohibition of Fishing) (No. 2) Order 1972, as amended by the Salmon and Migratory Trout (Prohibition of Fishing) Amendment Order 1975, and under common law. I am not in a position to say which of the Ayrshire estuaries are being netted in the 1976 season which commenced in February. But, from the returns made by proprietors to my Department, netting took place in the estauaries of the Rivers Doon, Girvan and Stinchar during the 1975 season.
