§ Mr. Hooleyasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will institute a local inquiry, under Section 32(1) of the Police Act 1964, into matters arising from the conviction of a Sheffield police constable for assault, against whom neither the Chief Constable nor the Director of Public Prosecutions had been prepared to take any action whatsoever, particulars of which case have been sent to him.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsNo, but I have been informed by the Chief Constable of South Yorkshire that he has already set up an investigation, which is being conducted by a senior police officer from another force, into all aspects of the procedures adopted and inquiries conducted by the South Yorkshire Police in this case.
When that report has been completed and I have reached my decision on the appeal made to me by the police constable concerned against his dismissal 182W from the force. I shall consider whether any further action on my part is necessary.
