asked the Secretary of State for Industry (1) if he will make a statement on the criteria governing the choice of Government directors appointed to the boards of public companies;

(2) if he will publish a White Paper setting out the duties which he expects Government directors appointed to the boards of public companies to carry out additional to those statutory duties imposed upon such directors by statutory company law.

No. Government directors are chosen on the basis of having the relevant experience and ability to contribute to the success of the business, having regard to the purposes of the finance provided by the Government.
