Mr. Cartwright

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) when he expects to be able to reply to the letters of 5th February and 25th March from the hon. Member for Woolwich, East about the case of Mr. Michael Jenkins, currently serving a sentence at Wandsworth Prison;

(2) what arrangements have been made by the authorities at Wandsworth Prison to enable Mr. Michael Jenkins to submit essays through the prison education officer for marking by approved outside lecturers;

(3) what steps have been taken by the authorities at Wandsworth Prison to implement the undertaking, given to the hon. Member for Woolwich, East by the Under-Secretary on 12th January 1976, that every effort would be made to afford educational facilities to Mr. Michael Jenkins;

(4) why the authorities at Wandsworth Prison have not allowed Mr. Michael Jenkins to receive all the textbooks recommended by outside lecturers as part of the preparation for his university degree course.
