§ Mr. Benyonasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether, in 496W view of the EEC regulations, his Department is monitoring the amount of fluoride in phosphate fertilisers, mineral licks for cattle, and tea.
§ Mr. StrangThere are no EEC regulations relating to the amount of fluoride in phosphate fertilisers or in tea, and monitoring is not carried out. My right hon. Friend intends, however, shortly to make regulations under the Agriculture Act 1970, which, inter alia, will implement EEC Directive 74/63 fixing maximum levels for undesirable substances, including fluorine, in animal feeding stuffs. Local authorities will be responsible for enforcement.
