HC Deb 06 May 1976 vol 910 c452W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will make arrangements for a suitable system of supply of eggs from producers and for package and storage facilities, so that the United Kingdom could supply dried egg powder to world food organisations on a regular basis.

Mr. Bishop

Her Majesty's Government are always ready to consider the provision of dried egg to food aid programmes run by agencies like the FAO/UN World Food Programme. However, the World Food Programme's demand for dried egg from the United Kingdom has over the years been relatively small and irregular. It must also be borne in mind that this product is expensive in relation to other commodities required by the programme and has a limited shelf life. In these circumstances it would be inappropriate to tie up aid funds in the storage of dried egg.
