HC Deb 04 May 1976 vol 910 c308W
22. Mr. David Price

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is his estimate of the effects of Command Paper No.6440 "Cash Limits on Public Expenditure" upon local education authority schools over the next five years; and if he will make a statement.

Miss Margaret Jackson

Cash limits apply to the total amount of recurrent financial assistance provided to local authorities by Central Government in 1976–77 through the rate support grant system. Because RSG is not attributed directly to a particular service it is impossible to define exactly how cash limits on RSG will affect education services, in all areas. Apportionment of RSG money is a matter for local decision. Cash limit arrangements after 1976–77 have yet to be decided.
