Mr. Dempsey

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish in the Official Report figures showing the number of persons who died from heart diseases at the most recent convenient date; and how the figures compare with those of each respective country of the European Economic Community.

The number of deaths registered in Scotland in 1975 from heart disease was 21,270—equivalent to a death-rate of 4.1 per 1,000 population. The following table shows the standardised death rate from heart disease in each country of the European Economic Community in 1972, the latest available year:
