§ 26. Mr. Scott-Hopkinsasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he remains satisfied with the safety of United Kingdom citizens in Portugal, in view of the buildup of armed Cuban, East German and Czech Communist forces in that country; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. HattersleyI do not think that the facts are as the hon. Member suggests. Press reports in Portugal about the presence of large and growing numbers of Cubans have been publicly denied by the Portuguese authorities. I am confident about the Portuguese Government's ability and determination to maintain the rule of law and ensure the safety of United Kingdom citizens in Portugal.
