HL Deb 31 March 1976 vol 369 c1278WA
Lord O'HAGAN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the tax authorities in other Member States of the EEC tax the travel and expense allowances of members of the European Parliament in the same manner as the Inland Revenue.

Lord JACQUES

No. I understand that it is the practice of the Belgian tax authorities to regard one half of the allowances as taxable income, and of the other Member States not to charge tax on them at all.
