§ Mr. Cyril Smithasked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection whether she is satisfied with the operation of the Price Check Scheme in relation to goods exhibited in electricity board showroom windows, in view of the impending increase in electricity charges from 1st April.
§ Mr. MaclennanI understand that most electricity board showrooms sell a number of household products that are included in the Price Check Scheme, and I am glad that area boards are able to take part in the scheme. I am satisfied that the scheme is operating successfully when so many manufacturers and retailers, including electricity boards, are joining in and using the Price Check symbol to identify the goods they sell that are covered by the scheme. Questions about increases in electricity tariffs, which are not included in the scheme, are for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Energy.
