§ Mr. EadieNo. There were a number of papers prepared for Ministers by the interdepartmental group. The published document contains all the relevant facts and assessments which were the basis of the Government's conclusion reported to the House in my hon. Friend's Answer to the hon. Member for Coatbridge and Airdrie (Mr. J. Dempsey) on 16th February—[Vol. 906, c. 472–3]—and I shall be pleased to consider any further specific questions that may be raised about them.348W
It would be helpful to me if your Executive would consider how and in what way your union could assist in recommending suitable persons for these appointments whether from the unions or from amongst the existing management in whom your membership have confidence.The responsibility for making the appointment remains with the Secretary of State in accordance with present practice but I would value your advice in this matter.A.
