The functions of the Commission are set out in Section 40 of the Local Government Act (Northern Ireland) 1972. These include responsibility for establishing advisory appointment panels for the purpose of giving advice to district councils on the suitability of applicants for appointment to the office of Clerk and to other offices for which qualifications 327W have been prescribed, namely Assistant Clerk, Chief Administrative Public Health Inspector and Chief Building Control Officer.
